This site sets no cookies

OpenQRS sets no cookies: none for sessions, none for preferences, none for measurement and none for advertising. There is no consent banner because there is nothing to ask you about, and no cookie table below because an inventory of nothing would be padding rather than disclosure.

Nothing about your visit is counted or attributed. No first-party cookie, no third-party cookie, no tracking pixel and no fingerprinting script is loaded, and the site's Content Security Policy blocks any request to another origin in any case.

A cookie is a small value the browser attaches to every request it makes to the site that set it. That automatic attachment is what makes cookies useful for sessions and useful for tracking: the value travels, by itself, with each request.

localStorage works differently. A value written there stays on your device and is readable only by JavaScript from the same site. It is never attached to a request, so it cannot reach the host, and on a site with no server to send it to there is nothing that could receive it even if it were. It is a note the page leaves for itself.

What is actually stored

  • oq-theme in localStorage, holding light ordark. It exists so the page does not flash the wrong theme before it paints. If you have never used the theme toggle, the key does not exist and the site follows your system setting. It is the only key the site writes.
  • A cache of the site's own files, managed by a service worker, so a page this device has already fetched can be opened again without a connection. It holds this site's pages and the stylesheets, scripts and other files they load, and none of your content. LikelocalStorage, it is storage the page reads for itself and never something the browser attaches to a request.

Nothing you type into a generator is written to any of it. Both are removable from your browser's site-data settings, and removing them costs you a theme preference and a fresh download of the page. The privacy statementcovers the same ground in the context of everything else the site does and does not do.

What would change if advertising were enabled

Advertising is off at launch and no ad markup or ad script is included in what is published. Being honest about the future matters more than a reassuring sentence: an ad network sets its own cookies and reads its own identifiers, and no site can enable one and truthfully keep a page like this as it stands.

If that ever changes, all of the following happen in the same release:

  • this page is rewritten to name what is set, by whom, and for how long, and re-dated;
  • a consent mechanism appears before any advertising cookie or identifier is set;
  • the reserved ad regions stay outside the generator workspace and off these legal and transparency pages, which will carry no advertising at any point;
  • the guarantee that nothing you type leaves your browser is unaffected, because the payload never enters a network request in the first place.
